Juicing is all the rage right now. There are juice bars and infomercials for juicing machines. Unlike many trendy diets, juicing and juicing cleanses are more than just hype and fads that will soon go the way of the grapefruit and cabbage diets.

Juicing has been seen to have numerous benefits from something as simple as helping an angry digestive system get back on track to fighting fatigue to even improving diseases including cancer.

Many critics continue question these claims. They argue there is no scientific proof of the benefits of juicing cleanses. But while science may not have gotten around to studying the benefits of juice cleanses, there is plenty of agreement as to individual benefits associated with juicing.

1. More Vegetables:
The standard diet may include some vegetables, i.e. a salad, a side of broccoli, mushrooms in your pasta or a snack of vegetables and dip, but, for the most part, people tend to fall well below the daily recommended amount of vegetables. Juicing is one way to get the nutrients, i.e. antioxidants, from vegetables and a variety of them without getting too full. The average juice is likely to contain far more than the RDA of veggies.

2. More Variety:
Most people tend to stick to the same vegetables with meals potato, broccoli, cauliflower, squash or zucchini. More rare are vegetables such as beets, kale, spinach, collards or other additions such as ginger, cayenne, lemon or parsley. All of these have tremendous health benefits, and they make great juice combinations.

3. Digestive System Rest:
Digesting food takes a lot of energy. It is an unbelievably complex, albeit pretty amazing, process. Your body knows to separate out some of the good stuff and send it where it needs to go to nourish the blood, organs and cells. And, hopefully, it gets the bad stuff where it needs to go the way of the waste products. Unfortunately, though, bodily functions dont always go as planned. Food products get hung up in places they dont belong, one thing interacts with another, fermentation starts to happen, and the result is upset stomach or gas. Juicing takes the need for digestion out of the equation. By cleansing and consuming nothing but juice, everything sitting in your intestines has a chance to move out and you get to start with a clean slate so to speak.

4. pH Balance Fights Disease:
When you eat animal proteins or processed foods, your body has to work extremely hard to digest these foods. It releases sodium bicarbonate to break down foods, which in turn creates hydrochloric acid. This builds up, causes heartburn, and, even worse, creates an acidic environment in your body in which diseases such as cancer can flourish. Juicing gives your body a break from producing these chemicals and vegetables make for a more alkaline (translation: healthier) environment.

5. Eliminates Toxins:
When juicing creates the alkaline environment mentioned above, it does more than stop diseased cells from replicating, it also makes the environment so unfriendly that anything living there that is unwelcome dies off. This is the part we refer to as detoxing. The junk gets pulled out of its home the cells, blood vessels and intestines and gets eliminated from the body. Its important to keep in mind, that this experience can be a fairly unpleasant one. As the waste products get carried out of the body through the colon and the skin, you may experience side effects including headaches, rashes, break outs and overall unpleasantness. Drinking water may help flush your system, but if you want to feel better in the long run, be prepared for a few days of feeling worse first. In the end, it will be worth it!
