Here at MHLC we are often asked for the secret to our vitality. Its no secret that we are vibrant and love life, and we let it show. And we are happy to share all of the ways that we maintain our health and radiance.

Clean Fuel

The cornerstone of our health is the high-quality, plant based, living foods diet we eat. Pure and unprocessed vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds make up the majority of our meals. This nutritious food fuels us through our days with vibrancy and energy.

You are what you eat is a well-known saying for a very good reason. And we have learned that we thrive the most when we eat living, colorful, fresh, healthy plant foods.

Pure Water

Drinking plenty of pure water is another necessity for complete vitality. Every cell and function of the body requires water. We would die within a few days without it, but even a few hours without water (or with only polluted or chlorinated water) saps our vitality and clouds our minds.

Aim to drink 1/2 your body weight (in pounds) in ounces of filtered or spring water each day (i.e. a 160 pound person would have 80 ounces of water).

Morning Light

Sunlight is crucial for well-being. It staves off depression and other mental disorders, and gives us vital life energy. Getting direct sunlight (no windows or walls) first thing in the morning boosts your metabolism and gives you lasting energy so much better for you than coffee.

Moving Body

Exercise is vital for health. It supports circulation, immunity, detoxification, and mental clarity. We are the healthiest when we engage in each of the three major types of movement mindfulness based practices like Yoga or Chi Gung, aerobic exercise like jogging or dancing, and anaerobic exercise like strength training or Pilates.

Self Care

In addition to Yoga and exercise, we need to care for our body temples. This includes developing morning and evening routines that maintain our teeth, skin, hair, and digestion. There are the obvious things like flossing, taking warm baths, and drinking ginger tea.

But also explore practices like dry brushing, oil pulling, self-massage, and using a neti pot, to help your body feel like a clean temple.

Another key piece of self-care is doing work that you love. It is not enough to merely drudge at a job that will give you only money. Rather, find work that uses your creativity and skills, and that feels like an expression of your authentic self.

Quiet Mind

In addition to caring for the body, we need to cultivate a quiet and focused mind. Our scattered modern egos are truly the most dangerous parts of human beings. Our perceptions determine how much joy we experience in life. Practices like meditation, chanting, self-less service, and some forms of Yoga help cultivate quiet and clarity in our minds.

Joyful Spirit

Yes, we work hard, and we play hard. Maintaining child-like wonder and curiosity as an adult is essential for health. We make time every day to do things we truly enjoy, and strive to explore something new physically or mentally at least a few times per week.

Expressing Gratitude

And lastly, one of the most important ways we stay healthy is by saying thank you. We express gratitude for our food, our health, our family, and our work. We also say thank you for our challenges and aggravations, and even the aging process.

Expressing gratitude for everything keeps our minds focused on how blessed we are, and allows for more of what we want to manifest in our lives.

They may sound simple, but these tips make up the foundation of our philosophy on healthy living. If you are reading this we consider you a friend, and just like the rest of our human family, we want you to thrive. Our secrets are simple and effective eat well, drink clean water, care for your body, do what you love, and express gratitude.
