Physical beauty is a manifestation of inner beauty. When we are healthy and taking good care of ourselves, we will glow. But sometimes the stresses of our environment can take their toll on our exposed parts. Caring for dry or damaged hair is easier than you might think. Here are a few recipes I have used to repair and renew my hair and scalp.

Truly Incredible
Raw, happy-chicken eggs (free range) can do wonders for dry or damaged hair. Eggs contain protein and healthy fats. The whites fight bacteria, while the yolks condition and moisturize hair.

To Use: Whip up 2 eggs with a little olive, almond, or coconut oil, and apply to scalp and hair. Put on a shower cap and let sit for 20 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water, then shampoo (or use a lemon or apple cider vinegar rinse). Use once a month.

To get rid of frizziness, treat your hair with avocado. An avocado treatment twice a month can keep your locks smooth and soft.

To Use: Thoroughly mash 1/2 avo and massage into hair and scalp. Let sit for 15 20 minutes under a shower cap, and rinse well with warm water.

A hot oil treatment is another great way to treat dry or damaged hair. The warm oil feels so good on the scalp, especially when mixed with an essential oil.

To Use: Warm 4 Tbl oil (organic coconut, extra virgin olive, castor, or almond) with 3-5 drops of a therapeutic grade essential oil (lavender, rosemary, yarrow, chamomile, geranium, or birch). Massage into scalp for at least 5 minutes. Put on a shower cap, then wrap your head in a warm towel. Let sit for at least 30 minutes, though overnight is better.

How Sweet It is
Honey is an incredible humectant, which means it draws moisture to the hair and helps lock it in. For a special treat, I love to slightly warm the honey/oil mixture and luxuriate in the sensual feeling as I pour it on my hair and scalp.

To Use: Mix 1/2 cup raw, organic or wildflower honey with 1 Tbl of organic extra virgin olive, almond, or avocado oil. For extra moisturizing add in 1 egg yolk. Massage into hair and scalp, put on shower cap, and let sit for 20 30 minutes. You can do this before or after shampooing. Rinse well with warm water. You may want to rinse with diluted lemon juice or apple cider vinegar if you will not be shampooing.

Avocado and Banana combine to make another sweetly satisfying dry hair treatment. The avo provides essential fats and vitamins while the banana reduces split ends.

To Use: Mash up (or blend) 1/2 of an avo, 1/2 of a banana, and 2 tsp almond or olive oil. Massage into hair and scalp, let sit (covered) 20-30 mins, and rinse well with warm water. Clean with a mild shampoo, and use a rinse or leave-in conditioner.

Stop the Itch
Flaky, itchy scalps can be treated with a blend of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and jojoba oil (or extra virgin olive oil). The lemon juice or apple cider vinegar strip unhealthy bacteria and product residue, and helps balance the scalps pH. The olive oil helps with the production of sebum, the scalps natural oil.

To Use: Mix 2 Tbl fresh organic lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, 2 Tbl organic jojoba or organic extra virgin olive oil, and 2 Tbl warm water. Massage into scalp, let sit for 20 minutes, and rinse well with warm water. You can follow up with a honey or raw egg treatment for a total happy hair package. Do this treatment twice a month to significantly reduce or eliminate flaky scalp.

Its easy to treat your hair with products from your kitchen. While the best way to grow radiant locks is with a nutritious diet filled with vitamins and healthy fats, applying these home remedies can certainly help!
