Question:
I am interested in a raw food diet due to high blood pressure. However, I notice the majority of the recipes call for quite a bit of sodium. What are your thoughts on this?

Answer:

It is true that most recipes contain quite a bit of sodium. This should not however stop you from trying something new or experiment with a recipe.

I suggest that you execute the recipe as mentioned but dont add any salt, sauces, condiment mixtures or other highly processed additives that are usually high in sodium. The best way to control how much sodium you get is to prepare your own food from fresh ingredients.

The taste will certainly not be as strong and defined as if you had added salt but you can add lemon juice (with fresh herbs is stronger)to enhance it. Lemon is also great for lowering cholesterol levels.

We are getting used to high amounts of sodium in our diets because is everywhere nowadays. Our body develop a habit to like sodium. Its not easy to cut it at first but I can assure you can lose the habit fast if you just be consistent for a week.

You are in the right way by choosing rawfoods and I will suggest that you add grains (natural) as well. Both excellent for controlling cholesterol.
